ARTIST STATEMENT

Reflected in my paintings, in subject and in expression, is my love of nature and the outdoors. My theme for this exhibition, love your mother, is the environmental slogan that says it all – if you love something, you are more likely to protect it. My exhibition celebrates trees, bees, and veggies, some of the gifts we receive from our earth “mother”.

My personal expression in painting is evolving as I continue on my art journey. Thick, richly coloured, palette knife applied oil paint in early paintings is giving way to more subtle textures, colours and brush applications, and mixed media with acrylics in later paintings. Although recent paintings lean more towards the abstract, there is always a reference to something in nature.

Consistent throughout the exhibition are square paintings with extensive use of circles and a limited three colour palette (cadmium red deep, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue).
